I have been a member for a while but have not posted many times, I didn't feel I had much to contribute. This post is to thank everyone here for the great threads.
I had a "clunk" in the drivetrain that was annoying and hard to pin point, last week it turned into a "wherring" (wow do I not know how to spell that particular noise) sound on deceleration.
This was not good and I started reviewing pretty much the entire data base here. I found that the most common possibilty was the transfer case. My son and I went to Pick-N-Pull on the weekend, got a new slightly used transfer case and put it in. Other than the upper passenger side bolt it went in pretty smooth, all the information on here made it seem like I had done it before.
My Explorer is fun to drive again and feels like a new truck. I think some time this winter, money allowing of course, that I will get the Omega mods done to the old case and have one that will never break down.
Again thanks to everyone.
