'95 XLT
Hi all, this is my first post as I just found this forum. Let me open by saying I have a 95 XLT 4x4. 2 Weeks after buying the X we had to replace the Tranny(bought the X used), the exhaust has never sounded right, it sounds like it has a ricer can on it, the truck seems to me to be down on power as well. If I set the CC at 65-75 mph the truck tends to surge alot and I am only getting @14-15 mpg on the highway. Also, when turning at low speed the rear end feels like it is grinding or catching?? Any ideas?

Oh, and one more thing, the seat back broke on the drivers side, it wont stay in an upright position. I heard this is fairly common, but have not found a fix for it yet.

Thanks

Big Lou

How many miles?

I would do the following as a basic, "tune up" to help with MPG's.

New Spark Plugs & Wires
New Fuel filter
Change fluids, including coolant
Check brake pads
Clean MAF sensor
Clean IAC if needed
Run a bottle of injector cleaner through it.
Check belt and tensioner condition.

I'm sure others will chime in. :) I just changed my plugs and wires, I get about 17-18 MPG city and 20+ on the highway.

as for the seat thing, happened to me as well. had to weld underneath to fix it.

To add to Brad's list I would check your coil pack, your o2 sensors, and air filter. :D

Welcome to the forum!

it sounds like it has a ricer can on it,

loss of power, strange sounds...

seems like the converter to me.

yup, maybe bad torque converter from the rebuild.

If your rear diff has the factory limited slip, I'd try adding friction modifier to the diff fluid and checking the fluid level.

If your exhaust smells bad, you may have a bad cat.
