96 sport 4x4
Hey there everyone.
I have a 96 sport 4wd and am looking to replace the tires on the stock 15 inch rims. The suspension and what not is all stock on the truck. My question is what size tires can i fit correctly on the rims that wont rub or cause any other problem? Im looking to get BFGoodrich Ats and will be taking the truck off-road (of course!). Therefore, it would be nice if the tires would not rub when the suspension is maxed out, which as anyone who takes an explorer off-road knows, happens A LOT :). Also, if anyone knows the largest size tire that will fit in the spare area, that would be useful too. Thanks in advance!

i wouldn't go any bigger than 31s with stock height. they wont rub.

does the same rule apply to first generation explorers?

31s can rub on a stock truck, or not. Depends on the truck. Worth a try though. If they do rub, you can always add the spacer/shackle (91-94) or the tt/shackle (95+) lift for the needed clearance.

Myself and most members think the spacers and shackles are a much better option than the body lift if you just want a little more room.

but then dont i have to buy new shocks?

If you plan to actually offroad it, any suspension lift is better than a body lift.

i got 30x9.5 on my stock 15discount said thats the biggest i can get with out rubbing but yet i have a first gen and it depends

yeah, i understand and i think that i will buy a set of rancho 9000s and do the spacers/shackles. but then ill have to get an alignment and i'm poor! haha
