I could use a little help....I have read all of the threads about both of these shocks, and I still am unsure what to buy.

I have a 98 Sport, so I have a shorter wheelbase. I have poly bushings front and back, the EE swaybar on back, and 31" tires.

Right now I have the Edelbrock IAS and since the roads are very bad here in Puerto Rico, every bump feels like the truck is going to shake itself apart.

I'm not concerned with the difference in price, and I have heard some very good things about the Ranchos, but I have heard a few complaints about durability. On the other hand, I am led to think the Bilsteins might be a bit too rough although I understand they are just about indestructible.

Aren't the ranchos adjustable? That would be a nice feature.

Go with the Bilstein, you won't regret it.

I have Bilsteins stock on my Level II Ranger. They are without a doubt the best shocks I have ever abused. I am planning to get a set for my X.

I've had both... I ran Bilsteins in my stock X for years and they were truly great shocks. I wanted to get longer Bilsteins when I lifted my X (4"), but they didn't have any rear shocks that would fit full travel. I ended up getting adjustable Rancho 9000's.. The front shocks were spec'd for a Bronco, and the rears were for the Excursion. The adjustable shocks have worked out well and allow me to dial in the front and rears for a balanced ride...

IMO shock selection can be subjective, one person can think they are too soft, while the next person thinks they are too hard... As such the adjustable shocks allow you to change the setting to tune the ride the way you like it. BTW non adjustable shocks were 1/2 the cost of the 9000s.. As such I would have bought them if I knew how they performed.. I just didn't want to put em in and find they were too soft or too hard for me..
