Just shoot me.....

This is the second run's times because I bombed so badly on the first... (hey! it was my first time!) I'm not posting my reaction time because it was so off

60'...2.397
330'...6.842
1/8...10.502
MPH- 67.13
1000...13.664
1/4 16.340
MPH- 84.10

That was with no air filter, overdrive turned off, windows up, HVAC turned to off, and a cooled down engine. I took a tip from a new friend and held the brake pedal down while revving the engine to 2500rpms. It made a difference, but it feels faster on the street! I usually start a race on the street with the gas pedal halfway down and then stomp on it once the revs get around 3K....

I was thinking at least a 15.8 or less...! I have the limited slip diff and 4:10 gears as well as the flowmaster and performance tires, but that's about it-I thought a stock SOHC could run a 16.2?

What am I not doing right so I know for next time??

God Bless that dude in the 2002 Lightning that I had to race for not laughing hysterically....:D

that time isnt too bad...... i bet a stocker could run a 16.2 but you must remember that that is with a professional driver.... only being 2 tenths off isnt all that bad.... and if your reaction times were poo, than that is why you didnt do better...... what do you mean by no air filter?

I just pulled the K&N drop-in out so the engine would get a little more air....maybe I ought to pull the whole HOOD off ;)

pulling the whole hood off wont allow you to pass tech inspection, trust me, i tried it.. ;) and it will slow you down becuase of the decreased aerodynamics (not that explorers have any more aerodynamics than a brick ;) ) eventhough the wieght savings
anyway, although a little more air, that could potentially cuase problems with dust getting sucked straight into the engine............

Its alright spas!!!! You will get them next time...... well you can atleast try against my friends 410 hp lightning and valley forge.

Next time only power-brake to about 1900. This will "shock" your torque converter and tranny better than 2500 and you should get off the line a bit quicker. If you get decent traction off the line, just put the pedal to the floor at the same time you let off the brake. If you heat up the tires decently with a little burnout, you should be able to floor it.

Those times aren't bad, they're about what I got with a 20 mph headwind ;) Also, leave your KN filter on. Not only will it keep the crud out, but it will smooth the incoming air and allow it to flow better into the motor. KN filters don't restrict unless they're caked with dirt.

Thanks guys, I feel a little better now ;) I wasn't sure if I could burn out or not because of the auto 4WD and the limited slip diff-maybe next time I'll try it. I would imagine that it's easier to concentrate without 3,000 spectators egging you on, too LOL

It was near perfect weather too, dammit..78 degrees and a 3 MPH breeze :p
