I ordered two 12 inch blaupunkt sub woofers for REAL cheap(41$ a piece), they are rated at 200rms/600peak @ 4 ohm. I'm also looking into getting a Blaupunkt mpa680us which is rated at 2 channels x 150rms/?340?peak (680w max, so divide ?) for $127. I'm just wondering if these sound like they would be good enough for some deeent bass and if anyone has any expirence with them. And no, this is not retail price, heh, they arent that cheap :)

Thanks,
Jeff A.k.a Lamah

If the subs are rated at 200 RMS, 150 to each should be almost perfect. Even though I have no explerience with Blaupunkt, they seem to look as if they are of good quality. But I hate the name. I don't even know how to pronounce it. The name just looks cheap to me. I do know that they were one of the first car audio companies, if not the first. Hope this helped a little.

I'm sure if someone asked you they wouldn't know how to pronounce it either so just say it how you think it is pronounced and if they say you're wrong be like well they changed it!

Blau

Blaupunkt (BUH-LAOU-PUNK-T)
Means "Blue Point" or "Blue Dot" in German.

Low end stuff is ok...their high end subs rock in the right size ported box.

You can just say "Blau" or call your subs "Blaus" and anyone who knows about high-end audio will know what you mean.

For a while there all BMW's and Porche's came standard equipt with Blaupunkt stereo's. Blaupunkt used to be the Paradigme of car audio. They got bested by Alpine in the early 90's and thier popularity steadly decreased, due in large part to the general unattractiveness of thier head units (see Rockford Fosgate who's head units are well above average but look no better than a Jensen). Alpine was becoming popular due in large part to Lamborgunie's exclusive use of Alpine products leading to an image of prestige for owning one.

I haven't heard any of Blaupunkts recent stuff, they were not at IASCA or USAC this year which is suprising given that even Jensen and U.S. Amps where there this year. Can't give you an honnest opinion of thier products. I just remember that the last head unit I saw them make didn't look much better than factory...

Just some back story for you.

Yeah all I know about their stuff is that it's really ugly. Who wants a yellow or bright red headunit. It screams STEAL ME!

Yeah, you'd think Blau would redo their faces a little bit, being so gaudy, but if you've ever seen the one Car Audio mag published in Europe (forgot the title, but the BEST mag by far, but like $9) everyone who's in to car audio in Europe likes that colorful stuff. I thought the company with the best gimick was Kenwood, when they had all those different faces you could get, like Carbon Fiber and stuff.

I know the magazine you're talking about. It's the one with the huge pages and it's not really that thick. I think that one is alright but I like Auto Sound and Security as well as Car Stereo Review and they're Mobile Electronics magazine. I think the europe one is simply called Car Sound.
