Blinking Check Engine Light on hard acceleration

2006 Explorer V8 AWD
So the other day, I was pulling away from a toll booth and I floored it. Literally put the pedal to the floor. The v8 roared and accelerated very smoothly. I then noticed the CEL blinking and I thought the worst. I stopped accelerating and kept at a steady 60mph. After maybe 1/2 mile, the light stopped blinking. The CEL has not come back. there are no codes to be pulled. I've continued to drive the car as I usually do, at speed, and decent acceleration, although not at WOT again.

Anyone with a similar experience? Any clue as to what it might be? All regular maintenance has been done, including new fuel filter. Nothing seemed to be out of the ordinary under the hood, no strange smells, no leaks, etc. And everything seems to be fine now. My first thought was fuel delivery. Any way to check the flow of the fuel pump? thanks for everyone's input.

How many miles? Mine did that for a few months, turns out it was a mis-fire. No codes or anything, just an occasional flashing light, every few weeks. Tried everything under the sun (injector cleaners, fuel treatments, air flow cleaners, computer reprograms, throttle body reprogram) Finally after a few months it flashed and stayed on. Ended up getting all my plugs and packs replaced around 105k. That was about 12k ago and haven't seen it since.

Spark plugs, very common on V8 4.6L 3valve.

I think it was around $850 for 8 plugs and six coil packs at my local dealership.

I live in a city, so i don't really have the means of doing it myself, and between the issues others have shared with removing spark plugs, the price of coil packs ($80-90 each, i think), and the fact that I was in and out in a day, I just sucked it up and paid.

Thanks for the honest answer/approximate cost. Cheaper than I expected since you had a bunch of coil packs replaced. Money well spent to have it done right in one day.

(Yes I know on the internet somebody will always claim they can do it for cheaper with a bunch of disclaimers and other nonsense, lol).
 






To the OP, check for water/moisture in any of the spark plug holes (I don't know what else to call them), I had problems with misfiring and it turned out the #8 cylinder had a decent amount of the wet stuff in it, which I blew out with a compressor and air nozzle and let it fully dry for a bit.
