Hey all I need some help, please. I found out why my OD light doesn't turn on and why my backup lights don't work and why the auto locks don't work. There was a 10 amp fuse blown that apparently controls all of these things. My problem: the fuse is blown shortly after I replace it. I don't know if the activation of one of the functions it controls it what is blowing the fuse. I think it might be the autolocks but I'm guessing.

Is the 10 amp fuse the right rating?

Any suggestions as to why it's blowing the fuse?

Thanks,
Matt

Check in your owners manual if this is the right size fuse.

Thanks Al. I will check that out. I didn't realize that there was a fuse chart in there.
Thanks,
Matt

These immediate shorts are best found by replacing the fuse with an old headlight or two. !/4 inch spade lugs fit into the fuse socket and each headlight will limit the current to about 5A. Two lamps in parallel will give you 10A. Instead of blowing fuses, the lamp will light. You can then wiggle wires around till you seelt the lamp flicker or dim. Then you are close to the problem. A sensitive DVM on the millivolt scale can also help. The lower the voltage, the closer you are to the short.

Thanks Opera House. I will try your suggestion. I checked the manual, the fuse that is blowing is slot 26 which controls, 5R55E/4R70W overdrive, AWD, DRL system (autodoorlocks?), backup lamps, rear defroster, and it is a 10 amp fuse. And it's definitely blowing the fuse somehow. I disabled the autodoorlocks but it still blew the fuse.

Any idea where I should start wiggling wires? Just on the back of the fusebox?
I don't know much about these explorers and I know even less about electrical systems.
Thanks again for your help.
Matt
