Blue Headlights...where to get them?

lol at this thread. i dont like the blue much. i saw a ram coming towards me with deep blue headlights on thursday i believe. yuck.

this is why im sticking with the silverstar ultras for now. much better then what i had in there before and cleaning the lenses helped some.
if i do get around to adding HIDs, id get the diamond cut headlights and retrofit a projector in there and black out the rest of the area around the projector

There's a '92-ish Ranger in my neighborhood that has HIDs (4000K) installed in the stock housings....looks nice and not glary, but I'm not sure what the beam pattern actually looks like from the driver's standpoint. It may not be very good.

I think the 9004 headlights are a very poor design. I have European H4s in my other car and they are far superior, with a nice sharp cutoff. But you can't really retrofit any other type of lamp into the housings without modifying/changing the reflector or the beam pattern will be off.

Using any kind of blue-tinted bulb will reduce overall light output. One of the best things to do is make sure your headlight housings are as clear as possible...some tend to yellow or cloud over time. And make sure they are aligned correctly. I settled for GE Nighthawk for a retrofit....they are standard, non-tinted 9004s, and they aren't noticeably brighter, but I think the filament has a slightly different shape because I definitely notice a sharper cutoff....i.e. more light where you need it. In rain/fog/snow I still need the extra light from the clear Hella fogs I added under the bumper, plus they help illuminate the edges of the road better.

I've seen some really crazy HID kits on cars that can't possibly be street legal....from deep actinic blue to purple to pink (and even orange headlights on a minivan).

light distance ?

Has anyone else noticed that the 4 headlights used as 'low-beam' DON"T SHINE ANY FURTHER AHEAD than regular low-beam headlights ?? I did a little experiment the other night. drive with your low-beams on. Notice how far ahead you can see. Put your 'driving lights' on . See how far ahead you can see. NO NOTICABLE DIFFERENCE AT ALL !!! They only light up the same part of the road that your regular low-beams do !!! So, it's all about ' Look at me, look at me !! ' instead of better visibility, more safety ! BN
