Blue Smoke on Start up

I have a 2012 Limited i purchased back in Febraury... I flew this past thursday to Vegas and got back today and as soon as i turned on the explorer to go to work i got a huge blue smoke cloud out the exhaust... whats up with that?

Blue smoke is burning oil, if it happens after the car has been sitting for a long time you could possibly have worn valve guides, this shouldn't be an issue unless it starts happening every time, or unless you start having to add oil in between oil changes.

Lets hope it was a one time thing, because you should not be having worn valve guides already on a 2012.

Yea it was really odd... It only has 18k on it shouldn't be doing it even if it sits... It's brand new 2012!

Near every vehicle I've owned after long periods of sitting (especially if there are drastic changes in temperature during that period) will blow a puff of blue. As long as you are not having any noticeable oil consumption, and you don't see smoke while the car is idling or accelerating, then I would consider it benign.

Its not worth the time, money, and energy it would take to find and fix the "not really leaking" leak, only to cause more issues in the process.

If you are losing oil, then it's a different story.
