I have a 01 Mountaineer 5.0 AWD and i would like to get a 3 inch body lift mainly for the look since i do very minimal offroading. My concern is that i have a WAAG grill guard and don't know if i would have to take it off with the lift? Any answers would help me a lot thanks.

I redrilled the brackets after I put my 3" BL on...

3" Body Lift Pics

I had no problems...I even had a major accident up front and caught a maxima mid air...he flew over a median landed directly in front of me and I plowed him.

The relocated bar took it better than if it had been stock. I redrilled the holes tight fit for the bolts (grade 8)...if it had been stock the bar would have flexed and done some serious damage to the grille, hood, etc.

I consider what I got minimal.

All you gotta do is get some extra hands and clamp it into position- I tipped mine forward just a bit cause I thought it looked better- clamp it and drill away.

You'll have to either get a couple of tubes (pipe or something) to extend the mount point that are just above the bumper so they'll reach where the stock brackets are, but it's worth it for the extra strength.

I ran mine for about a month without the upper mounts over the bumper, but wanted the strength and worked out something to attach them and boy am I glad I did! :D

Thanks for the answer and the pictures. Nice ride!! I was just worried that i would have sell the grill guard since i have the BL on the way.

Have you looked into raising those nerf bars? They look a little low.
Robb

Actually Robb, I was going to wait just a little bit until I'm one of the Big Boys!! Like You!! :D

It's those SAS'es you guys keep doing- it's killing me! I'm waiting until JoshCs truck gets done, then I'm going to do the Coil SAS.

After the SAS I'll do something about the Nerf Bars.

By the way Robb, do you have a front shot of yours so I can see the track difference front/rear with the tires on?

I curious about that, not worried, just curious...

I saw a pictures of yours...finished (?) I take it- Lookin Good!!!

Karlitto, have you given any thought to a small suspension lift instead? This would give you a lot less worries, is cheaper, and easier.

Torsion twist in front and addaleaf and/or warrior shackles in rear for about 2". There are many threads on these topics, I suggest you use the search feature.

Hey Alec the only thing is i am completely illiterate to the TT and Shackles and dont know where i can go to get what i need or if i can find somewhere to get them installed. I have looked at the local 4wheelparts dealer at the superlift which was way to expensive and im not sure they do the TT and Shackles. If you have any suggestions what i should do they are welcome? My main goal is to fit some 32 inch tires without blowing a hole in my wallet.

I have searched this whole site many times and i am still unsure.

TT = free... All you need is a 3 ton floor jack and some wrenches. Shackles can be bought from most reputable off road parts stores (that carry Warrior Products). If you are planning on doing a BL, then you would have no problems doing a TT/Shackle lift. Shackles are easily swapped, just a matter of a few bolts and you're sitting 1.5" higher.

Look for the post called "Torsion Twist 101 - Everything you need to know" or something like that. It describes in detail (with pics) the TT lift ~ this has been extensively done by the members of this forum. (Add myself to that list in a few weeks)

By the way, I thought I should mention-

Mine has a 3" Body Lift, but it also has a 2" Torsion Twist and repacked, re-arced rear springs with a heavy duty 2nd leaf.

The Torsion Twist is simple all you need is a wrench and a measuring tape.

Ok with the TT what is the maximum number of turns i can do with being safe because im still not sure after reading the TT 101, also how quickly should i get an alinement? And last what kind of work does it take to install the Warrior shackles? Sorry about all of the questions just don't want to hurt anything in the process.

wow !! thats alot of lights :D

looks good

srry for hijacking the thread

You can safely do a 2" TT without any problems, but you should get an alignment soon afterwards to avoid bad tire wear.

The warrior shackles install with a jack, a few jackstands, and a few wrenches and ratchets, no big deal.

BTW, who's festooned X is that?

Alec
So i read up on the shackles and all i really need to do is support the leafs and axle with jack stands and then the shackles should be easy to replace?

That is cdsl227's explorer there are more pictures at the top of this tread under the Body Lift link

Thanks for all the help

Ya, I figured out the truck.

You'll also need to support the frame of the truck, easy to do on jackstands right before the front leaf spring hangers.
