My Ranger has that freaky 4 cylinder with 8 spark plugs. Over the past couple of years Ive noticed a lack of power at low RPM thats progressively getting worse.

If I change the spark plugs, it used to run right for about a month but now it will only run right for about a week when I change them. It doesn't matter if its expensive $7 BOSCH platinum 4 prongs or cheap $1 AC Delco, it still does it. Every time Ive changed them there are NO visual signs of a malfunction on the plug like discoloration or oily or anything like that.

I'm not very good at internal motor troubleshooting & diagnosis so I'm at a loss with why this thing wants to die when I go to pull out & why I have to rev it up so high to keep it from dieing on me. No problems at higher RPMs just low RPMs like pulling out & new plugs will fix it but last time it only fixed it for 3 days. Lately its got so that I'm driving too fast just to keep the RPMs up to stay in the sweet spot where the power is.

If I forget & go to pull out at a normal RPM it just makes this strange bogging down sound where it only has a 10th of normal power. If I hold the pedal down it will very slowly gain speed & then it kind of gets to an RPM range where everythings normal & just takes off like nothings wrong. If a cars coming, its faster to press the clutch, rev it up & pop it barking te tires to keep from getting hit rather than waiting on it to catch up on its own. Needless to say this is very dangerous in heavy traffic. Ive become so paranoid that it'll die or bog on me that Ive got in the habit of reeving it WAY up when I go to pull out, close to spinning the tires & some times I do. Thats just not normal & I'm stumped for whats wrong to fix it.

Any ideas?

timing belt ?
could be stretching out making everything not work correctly, had one at work last winter that had this problem,,
plug wires could be a problem too , as well as the coil,
