ive changed to new fuel pump and filter via backseat fuel pump door mod no fuel leaks did the maf clean with contact spray and swabs , ran some berrymans b-12 intitially and cleaned the throttlebody with carbcleaner new gasket cleaned the air box made sure no blocks put in new double plat plugs .......

original autolite guys seasoned well but turning tan originally gaped new plugs to ford spec 54 but didn't like the performance so I moved back down to 45 plugs looked ok when out no fowl balls since having more trouble than autolite guys I started with EGR

or worse auto logic is somewhere in limbo giving me an improper burn? 111 but screwed up run test

give it gas and slow to pass

Have you replaced the plug wires? I know this sounds like a stupid question, but sometimes it is an overlooked item.

From what I know, and have read our trucks respond really well to motorcraft plugs and wires, everything else likes to be a PITA. That's not to say there's good stories about other products, but I don't know of many.

I have been fixing cars since I have been 12 years old, I know what it takes to trouble shoot a car, I'm also a mechanic I know the tools you need. Shouldn't have to explain my self, I'm currently out of work do to the winter season, and I don't exactly have funds to be doing anything while I'm putting my self through school. The fact that I'm not glued to this site every day asking what's this, that and the third, I think is an accomplishment. That Probe with 2 engines swaps and a rebuilt tranny did not get that way by any one's else hands but my own.

Replaced the fuel pump and all is good I can now accelerate up hill once again, and now I no longer have to guess how much fuel is in my tank. :D Good day

Wow.
I've been working on motorcycles since 10, and started in an auto shop when I was 14. The reason why I hang out here every once in awhile is to learn something by the experience of others. There are ways do do things that cost nothing (like "rent" a fuel pressure gauge, then return for full refund). These old Explorers have some unusual quirks that may not be common to all cars, but are certainly common to the Explorer. I hope I never come across that I know more than all of you. I mostly come here out of appreciation for the help I've received in the past, and hope to pay it forward by maybe helping someone else as I continue to receive help along the way.

"The main thing to look for is "flat spots" or opens at certain places in the throttle's motion. "

yea noted I don't like the looks of the ends on mine flimsy looking noticed someone trying to make up the difference with conductive gel these are hardly tinned and cheapchrome from what I hear is that silver oxide is the stuff most conductive element

mechanic reminded me of crossed wires also that can send jolts to the wrong plug
