Just went to look under the bonnet of my '99 Explorer for the first time since I bought it and the bonnet latch won't pop. :(
When I bought it, the dealer had to do some work on it as it was stuck on the secondary latch and wouldn't shut properly (although it would open). Unfortunately, I didn't check it when I picked the car up so have only just found the problem.
Fair play to the dealer, they've offered to have the car back to fix it but I thought I'd have a go first anyway to save the hassle of having to take it back.
I think part of it is an alignment problem.
When I pull the lever under the dash, there is tension in the cable and you can hear something moving at the front of the bonnet so I'm pretty sure the cable is connected to the latch.
Has anyone had this problem before and does anyone know how to pop the latch so I can open the bonnet (and hopefully fix it!)?

Thanks.

Welcome to the site...
There are several threads on stuck Hood Latch . If you're lucky you will be able to use some penetrating oil to free up the mechanism...

Thanks for your fast reply. The photos on the link really helped and we managed to wedge a screwdriver into the manual release and pop the hood.
Then found it was the latch that wasn't aligned properly and was catching on the hole in the hood. Moved it a couple of mm to the right and soaked it in WD40 and it's now working fine!

Glad to be of help and to hear the latch is now working
