want an explanation for why the following happens:
I have a Shiva (250W with 2.25CF net - tuned to 30Hz with 30sq in of port) with port firing on the same side as the woofer... hits very hard. When I face the woofer out my hatch with hatch open with my system bumping you can't even hear the damn thing.
My 15" Kove Armageddon-M (3.25CF after disp, 40sq in. of port tuned to 35Hz) has a CRX style thing going, sub up, port to the hatch... hits even harder than the Shiva inside with 250W. Outside with the hatch open standing like 10 ft away the bass cannot be heard essentially.
I put my buddies two black 10" Pioneer best buy woofers in there... the ones you get for like $80CAD and u get the second one half price. 125W RMS/400W peak. The box is sealed and too small too (1.25CF). I put these in my Explorer with the hatch open and you can actually feel these things pumping and hear them too from a distance of like 10ft away.
For experimentation purposes I bought a 10" JBL Loud and Clear subwoofer and for the hell of it I made a 1CF sealed cardboard box for it in about 5 minutes. This thing was very loud outside standing outside the SUV. Inside the vehicle it is not very loud at all.
What the hell? I mean yeah I know the sealed box that is too small makes a bump in the response curve but that can't account for it. Maybe I have cancellation... I don't think so though. It can't be with the Shiva cause the port is going in the same direction.
So yeah these things sounded loud outside... with the hatch closed they still seemed to be loud outside however inside the car the bass was not hard hitting at all. I don't get it... maybe someone can explain this to me. And before some people jump on me I am a courteous person and I "bump responisbly" and my vehicle isn't even loud outside.
