I know this is subjective, but considering a lot of HUs are coming about with graphics & animations now, I'm wondering if people eventually get bored of the animations and stills provided in their HUs? .. Do these things eventually become 'silly' -- and if so, would you have purchased a HU without graphic capabilities....

I know some HUs now allow you to change the graphics, but some of these are not very 'mature' technically - except I guess for the really expen$ive ones.

Thanks,
PJ

i was looking at a Hu the other day in best buy and noticed that you can even put your own grapiichs on them now like burn a disc offf the Computer and put it in the Hu and it'll save it or somethin like that

I can upload my own OEL images to mine, so I really never get bored. Either way, I don't look at it much to care enough for it.

You must be talking about the JVC units..
I was thinking about them, but apparently you can only have 90 frames (little more than 3 seconds) of animation OR 90 still picks at any one time.
Do you like the screen clarity?
Can you change the color of the button illumination? - which seems to be red on all the JVC HUs?

Thanks,
PJ

Actually I own a Pioneer DEH-7500MP. I can upload both images and animations, no limits at all on animations, and you choose how to scroll the image (pretty basic, not many options). Buttons are all green/blue, never needed to change because that's the general thing going on. I love the unit, has been completely reliable in every way.

Does the Pioneer DEH-6600 have the same capability?

Geez --- I didn't realize pioneer had that option -- but it does'nt seem clear on thier web site if the newer models have the downloadable feature or not?
Has Pioneer abandoned this option?...

I don't think it does. I have this model. neither does the 7600 :(

What the Heck is going on? Why did Pioneer throw out that option.
I was looking at the JVC's, but I think the screen is not that great and you're very limited to animations etc. -- So was thinking of the Sony (mentioned above - cuz at least the screen looked better ...)

But a unit where you could modify the animations and have more than 3 seconds (JVC) would be great...

I know some of the higher end kenwood's allow you to upload images from a cd-r as well. Not sure on the specs, as far as frame limits and such, but more companies than just JVC are offering this as an option.

The new Pioneers do have the downloadable screen savers, pictures, or whatever...or even your own pictures or movies. They have software that you can download on theyre website for free. I'm pretty sure only the 8600 and the 9600 are capable of doing this though...for the new models...heres the link to the software

I think they are REALLY stupid. I HATE them. I like nice simple displays, & a real volume knob. At least the Clarion unit I have now doesn't have lot's of flashing lights, & the screen saver thing can be turned off. The old school Denon units from like 4 years ago were the best. Simple, souded good & had a real volume knob. Wish I took it out of my old X before I sold it :(

Yeah, but those models start at $800 CDN!! I was hoping for something a little more reasonable...

These two models also have "background visuals" along with stills and animations...

Anyone know how long the animations can be? or if you're limited to at a few seconds of animation???? :bounce: :bounce:

Yes, that's the program I have. Works awesome. As far as I know, all Pioneer's 7600+ above will be able to use it.

Well, $800 cnd....you can actually find some really good deals on them on the internet. Ive found the 7600 for around $225 US, and the 8600 around $300 US. Just look around, you can find some great deals. Goto www.pricegrabber.com and just type in the model number, the search will find you the web site with the lowest price for that paticular model. Not really sure how everything works with them shipping to canada, or if some sites will even do it, dont see why not...but wont hurt to try that out

But you use it (the software) with a 7500MP right?..

Can you store more than one animation on the HU at a time?
The JVC' s spend 6-10 min to load 1 3 second animation and that's all you can have (at a time), period. If you try to download another, it erases the one you had...

Not sure if anyone mentioned already, but you can also try ebay. I bought a brand new Pioneer DEH-6600 on ebay for about $150 and only paid an additional few bucks for shipping. In stores like circuit city and best buy, these same brand is going for near or at $250.

Yeah, but on eBay you really don't know 100% what you're getting. Plus noone installs it for you! lol :burnout:

Well yes and no. You can make the argument that you aren't 100% sure of what you're getting, but I think you can make an even stronger argument that what you bid on is what you get.

If you big on a used HU, you might get one that works...you might not (especially if it's advertised as so) ;). If if it's advertised as new, then chances are, you're going to get something that is new.

All depends on how much faith you place in ebay. If concerned, contact the seller directly. Some dealers have websites and you could probably make a deal outside of ebay at or near the same price probably.
