Can I directly replace the "automatic" T- case BW 1354-C (models 95+) with a "common" BW 1354 (models 92/94), without any modifications?
The plugs and electronics are the same?

Thanks in advance.

Excuse me, I made a mistake.
I must wrote "4405 C" instead off "1354 C".

hmmm, have to get back to you on that, Namitey is about to swap in a 1354 Manual in place of the all wheel drive (4405) currently in his 97 sport.

In the other posts, I didn't say that I want to replace the 4405 with the ELECTRIC 1354, not manual.
Here in Argentina we don't have manuals 1354s.

I don't know if I can use the 4405 electronics and connections with an electric shift 1354 T-case.

Thanks in advance.

Alfredo, although this thread is a little old I'll give it a try. Please tell me what you finally did about the transfer case swap. I'm from Argentina too, so I face the same limitations (no manual 1354 available, etc). Contame como te fue y cualquier decisión que yo tome y como me vaya te lo comunico.

Gracias

Luis

The E-shift 1354 will physically bolt up to a 95-01 4R55E or 5R55E tranny. The GEM,switch, and wiring will NOT work. "I think" The rear driveshafts from all 95-01's will bolt up to this case no prob. If you have a 95, the front driveshaft will bolt up. If not, you may need a new front driveshaft or some driveshaft modification as the 96-01 used a CV on the front driveshaft.

T cases replace

The final answer is: you can´t replace the cases without any modifications.
Hasta los enchufes son diferentes.
Cualquier consulta mandame un mail y decime de que barrio sos.

Jason_25, yhank you for your answer.
You were sending your post at the same time that i send my post.

Jason_25, just to clear up my mind:

a) An electric 1354 will bolt up, but putting the GEM to work will be hell. I’d better forget it.

b) A manual 1354 will bolt up, now how do you manage to make the GEM think the original transfer case is still there?. In the List of Useful Threads there’s one dedicated to the manual 1354 swap and Buchvilleman says that after disconnecting the battery the GEM detected the original transfer case was not there and so his vacuum hubs didn’t engage anymore. He worked it out plugging in the old shift motor and wiring harness while thinking on installing a switch to engage the front end directly. Then you answered him with directions on how to find the vacuum relays. However, no further treatment is given to this on the thread and I still don’t know how to make it work. If I can make this point clear maybe am going to embark myself in bringing a manual 1354 from the USA.

BTW I have a ’96, so it seems modifications on the front driveshaft are in my future. ¿Can’t I just slide the existing CV joint on the spline of the 1354 t-case input shaft? Please, please, tell me I can.

You just can’t imagine how much your help is appreciated.

Very good question indeed. I plan on doing this swap in the future as well. Instead of worrying with the vacuum disconnect, I just bought a 97 explorer front axle off of ebay for 30 bucks :D I plan on regearing anyway, so this is the time.

But if you plan on keeping your front axle you could either leave the shift motor hooked up without the transfer case, or you could try to modify the vacuum disconnect to be permanently engaged. Let me know if you have any more questions and good luck.
