Hey sploder gurus,

I have a problem I have been messing with since I got my sploder 4 mths ago, and I have spent a lot of time looking at the archives, etc... and still no luck...

I have a 98 EB V8 AWD and the day after I bought it the cruise quit working... no light on the dash, etc... So I started looking at options as to why it quit working...

The previous owner mentioned he had been messing with the fuse panel (very unmechanical person) because his pwr mirrors quit working... I found a blown fuse, replaced it, and the mirrors work fine.

Anyway, I got a 1997 Explorer Manual via e-mail from Danial Cauchon (THANKS DANIEL) and compared the fuse listings to mine... and they are almost ALL different!!!

My question is this:

Was there a change in fuse usage from 1997 to 1998?
or are mine all messed up (he would have had to change about 75% of them...)

Here is what I have now:

Fuse #1=7.5a, 2=7.5a, 3=10a, 4=10a, 5=10a, 6=7.5a, 7=7.5, 8=10a, 9-12=7.5a, 13=20a, 14=10a, 15=7.5a, 16=30a, 17=25a, 18=25a, 19=25a, 20=7.5a, 21=15a, 22=20a, 23=15a, 24=7.5a, 25=7.5a, 26=10a, 27=15a, 28=7.5a, 29=25a, 30=15a, 31=empty, 32=10a, 33=15a, 34=7.5a, 35=7.5a, 36=7.5a.

Also, the Chiltons Wire schematic also lists differently than I have now, making me think someone has been playing musical fuses...

I know this isn't a very interesting Q, but I am hoping someone has messed with this, or has a 1998 manual they can look in for me so I can get them right- I would hate to have a circuit smoke cause I have too big a fuse, etc...

THANKS for any and all replies...

Do you have the manual for the truck? You know the one that comes in the glovebox? It has fuse listings in it. I'll look at my cd service manual and see what it says for 98, but I would recomend looking in that, or going to the dealer and getting one.

Nope, no manual...

taxxman

The previous owner "lost" it at his home so I am SOL in that respect. I bought the Chilton's and it has the fuse schematic, I am just not sure if it if correct (it says that 1995-1999 are all the same, which would make sense...)

I'm not gonna buy an original owners manual, cause in my opinion they are worthless (at least for $40 I would probably have to give for one:eek: )

If I keep having problems, I am gonna buy one of those CD's, but only if I haveta...

Thanks for the reply...

no prob 98 EB ! I know it`s a pain when you don `t have the manuel, but you know what I have learn more on my Ex from this site then the manual !! so keep looking maybe do a search and you will find something, another thing if you can take a pic of your fuse box ( I know it sounds silly but I did it for someone who want it to see the back controls for the radio and the functions to install it and it work out great ! the guy was very happy it help him alot..)
Good Luck on your search.

owners manuals on ebay

you might want to look on ebay for an owners manual, they almost always go for under $20 s/h included. I have a 1999 ford factory electrical manual if you need any pages from it I will be glad to send them to you via email. I have almost the whole manual scanned onto my computer. If I can be of any help to you or anyone else with the electrical manual pages feel free to ask. This site has helped me many times so it is the least I can offer. good luck

other option is I bet you could get someone with a 98 to photocopy or scan the pages .... WAIT one of our sales guys drives a 98. Let me go grab his manual. You got a fax machine nearby? Or if not I can scan and email tonight.

pm me or hit me on AOL IM at dhaughs

:D

Last year when I bought my 97

I searched the internet and found a Ford site like MyFord......com and downloaded it in Adobe. I remember it was quite hard to find and I just tried for 5 minutes and came up with nothing. But, you can get it from Ford on the web.

my cruise stopped working the other day after i cleaned my throttle body. i couldn't figure out why for a few minutes, but then i pulled the black plastic guard off that is just to the right of the tb and noticed that the cable had somehow disconnected from the throttle cable so i reattached it and that solved all my problems. you might want to try this, all you need is an 8mm socket.

as promissed 1998 Explorer factory manual fuse pages: (be patient this scanner is slow)

THANKS TAXXMAN!!!

That link worked great! I printed it off and compared it to mine, there was only one fuse wrong- I guess my Chiltons was wrong, and the 1997 manual is different than 1998...

Anyway, I really appreciate all the help I have received on this board- it really makes owning a sloder a lot easier!!!

Now I just have to track down that darn problem with the speed control...

THANKS!!!

how do you know the problem is electrical? did you check the thing i suggested? i had the exact same symptoms as you and the fix was really easy.

Good question...

expo5.0,

Thanks for the heads up on the cable, I forgot to add that I checked that out- everything seems to be connected- it is really weird (the light on the dash doesn't come on either...)

I have a sneaking suspicion it has something to do with me messing with the "Add-on" wiring under the hood, or possibly removing the cell phone (I couldn't get the cable to come loose and pulled on it REALLY hard- I wonder if I didn't pull a wire loose in the dash...

Anyway, I have a 7 mth. old babe at home, and finding time to chase down an electrical problem is nonexistent- at least I only have to drive 3 minutes to work!!!

Thanks for the suggestion, and I will be sure to post a detailed explanation when I figure out the problem (there is very little info on the forum about cruise control...)
