bought a 96 Explorer for $9500.00 canadian about 2 weeks ago.

Seems like its in very nice condition extremely clean and well taken care of its just a wonderful truck basicly. Only one problem though. Just yesterday the check engine light came on when I peeled out coming out of a corner.

Now when I drive when I go from 1000rpm to 2000-3000rpm it makes a weird sound. It seems to be coming from under the truck, maybe around the exhast area. The sound is something similiar to that of a turbo. Hard to explain, its not loud or anything but you can hear it if you concentrate on it.

I personaly dont really mind it, sounds kinda cool actualy. But I am worried if it is something that could lead to a serious problem. Or something serious.

Any feedback would be much appreciated.

And still have the 93 X

take it to a local place like autozone to have the code read. Then come back and post to us what the code was, someone will know.

alright, another '96 xlt!!!!!! sweet!!!!!

The best thing to do is take it to Autozone to have the code read for free. Then you can find out what to do.

Is it a sort of whizzing noise ??
I got that on mine just recently, it only seems to happen when I take my foot off the gas pedal and then it starts. As soon as I put the gas pedal down again it stops.
Does anyone have any suggestions ?

You're probably either

A : Hearing one of the timing chains

B : The IAC is beginning to go out, and is making that noise.

Try cleaning the IAC out and see if it fixes anything.

Maybe you are hearing a small exhaust leak?
