We bought our Explorer new in June '90. For about 6 months people stared at it on the road, in gas stations, etc. as if it were a classic Ferrari-there were hardly any others around yet! Lots of fun-but not as much as driving effortlessly 500 miles to Death Valley, then pulling off the road, locking the hubs, and really getting out there. Off pavement for thousands of miles (over 1,000 in low range). Towed big speedboat on long, hilly trips. Commuted over mountains. Long, rough life.

Its been semi-out-to-pasture for last 4 months, nursing its 260,000 mile legs, and now we miss its capabilities (mostly low range, manual trans and hubs), so we're now in process of restoring its great reliability. Got water pump, radiator, hoses, heater core and entire serpentine system restored (cost: about $500 plus my sweat). Front brakes coming up, plus tires and, ah . . .

Electric windows! (all 4 have motor/regulator ills). And those rear doors just won't open from inside!

I have been reading this website for last 7 or so years, and spent a lot of time on it yesterday figuring out what to do with the windows and rear doors. I learned a lot and will post the results when (if?) the problems are solved.

So thanks for your help so far, and I look forward to learning and sharing more in the future.
