1998 Mercury Mountaineer
Well, I drive a 1998 mercury mountaineer. Right now, my main brake lights aren't working, but the third brake light is. The bulbs have been replaced and the fuses checked, but that didn't fix it. One person told me it could be some type of switch located at the brake pedal that make the lights go on. Have anybody ever heard of this or know what he is talking about. Or does anybody else have any suggestions as to what the problem could be?

It probably wiring going from the splice to the bulbs or have you checked the bulbs with a meter along with the sockets.

Budwich has told you right.

Check for 12 volts at the sockets with the brakes pushed. Check the ground connection in the socket and double check the bulbs do work.

If I remember correctly all the brake lights on a 98 use the same feed wire from the brake pedal.
