When my truck is off, the third brake light flashes.
When I press the break pedal, only the third brake light comes one, the bottom two do not.
Anyone else know what this is all about, I have checked fuses and connections that I can get to.
Help before I get rear ended!

I had my third brake light flash when my truck was off as well a few months back. Turned out to be the brake switch connected to the brake pedal.

I had someone inform me that my lower brake lights were out. chased wires and fuses all over H - E double Hockey sticks only to find out BOTH rear bulbs were bad, GO FIGURE!

Thanks!

Thanks for the assistance, honestly, it never dawned on me that it could be both lights burnt, I guess I was trying to figure out how the two problems could be connected, and blame it all on the "electrical gremlins" that seem to inhabit all Exlporers.
I'll take a look at the brake switch, if it isn't too difficult, try and replace it.
Thanks again!

Before replacing the switch, give it a good shot of WD-40. I fixed my sticking E-Brake switch with it, along with door locks, courtesy lights, etc.

You were right!

Thanks Andrew, it was both lights burned out, go figure. Guess that's why they come in packages of two...

LStoudenmire-
I looked around underneath the dash, and on the brake pedal assembly area, and cannot determine where the switch is?

I spend 4-day trying to figure it out. Then took it to the shop and the mech and I traced the wires. We removed the rear light to check the wireing and found the lamps out. Both of us were ashamed!

The moral of the story..... KISS

Keep It Simple Stupid. Start with the very basics. Amazing with these trucks how many times the problem lies with the simplest/easiest of parts. Glad your fix was as easy as it was!
