Brake lights and cruise control????
My brake lights won't go out and my cruise control quit working at the same time!
Can anyone tell me how long i have before my Explorer's battery dies?? It is pouring rain to hard to do any work at the moment! Started to stay on around noon today and the back lights are getting hot!! So about 5 hours. Funny thing is at the same time my cruise control quit working all together??!!??!! Any ideas?? I prefer to do my own work if at all possible. I have read about the switch cleaning and the switch replacement and it looks doable but the secondary problem stumps me!! Why the cruise control at the same time?? All help welcome.

Classic symptoms of a bad brake light switch. Mounts under dash, actuated by brake pedal arm. The truck thinks you're hitting the brakes, which tells the cruise to deactivate.

Cheap and easy fix.

Hope this helps.

Thanks. I disconnected the battery cable when I got home. Hopefully when I get up it won't be pouring rain xand I can get under there and clean the switch or replace it.

Not raining this morning, so I took a pair of pliers, a Q-tip, a little full strength Sol-U-Mel and and 5 mins and my problem is solved. I have brake lights off and cruise control working!!! Thanks.
