Hi Everyone,

Have a '96 2wd limited V6. I went down the driveway (downhill), hit the brakes, and the pedal went to the floor. I went over a curbing and into a neighbor's front yard. Behind me was a trail of brake fluid. Turns out the RF brakeline blew out within an inch of where the metal line turns to the rubber flex hose. SO, replacing the line, which I got out, but I have questions. First, Ford does not sell pre-bent lines for my application anymore. I took the old line to the parts store; it is 3/16 line but wrapped in small metal coils. There is also about an 8" section near the upper part of the line which is braided flexible hose. Any idea what this is for? Can I just get an 8' 3/16 line and bend it into place? The access is not that good--from the ABS unit, the line goes down and rides on the back side of the steering rack until it goes up by the shock and down to the caliper. Any suggestions on bending the new line into place? Should I get two lines with a coupler?

Thanks

The flexible part at the top side is because the body moves relative to the chassis. Therefore, the line must have some flex to it. If you can not find the right line with the upper flexible hose, coiling the steel line a few times works too (common in older cars/trucks).
