Brake pad life and best replacements

I have about 65K miles on my 2020 XLT and the shop advised me the brake pads will need replacement at the next visit.

I am planning to replace the pads with the original OEM type since the originals lasted so long and worked great.

Please share any recommendations you may have on the replacement pad brand.
Also, should I expect the rotors will need to be replaced at the same time?

I have an ST and am so impressed by the OE pads and rotors. Mine is the family trip vehicle in addition to my commuter car but I have 80k miles on the stock setup and due for replacement in the spring. Will definitely be getting stock brakes and maybe rotors again. I usually replace rotors because the times I haven't, I get brake judder with the new pads well before the pad life is close to being done.

I have 40+ years in the automotive parts aftermarket, have owned 2 shops, and am a 3 time (working on the 4th) re-certified ASE Master Tech. YES - with 65K miles REPLACE THE ROTORS and replace all the brake hardware, abutment clips, rubber boots, guide pins, etc. The OE rotors and pads are very good. A lot of people don't know about the quality difference in aftermarket rotors - some are very cheap and some are very high quality - you definitely get what you pay for. There is a relatively new product commonly referred to as "high carbon" rotors, meaning the steel used to make the rotors has a higher carbon content than the cheap stuff. HC rotors are OE on a lot of your European nameplates: BMW, Mercedes, Audi, Porsche, etc. I would highly recommend these for any application when available. I just put some on my 2017 F-150 and love them. They dissipate heat better than the low carbon variety, and the manufacturers that make them use the OE vane configurations instead of trying to cut corners like the cheap stuff. Some of the name brands that offer HC rotors are: Winhere, Pagid, and Advics. A top-of-the-line brake pad from a brand you like will usually give you great service. So much emphasis is put on the brake pad, but very often the pad is the symptom, not the actual problem. A quality brake job done with quality parts will last for another 65K+ miles. CLEAN-CLEAN-CLEAN-CLEAN everything and use a high quality caliper grease during assembly. Use a torque wrench. Brake jobs are not hard, but pay attention to the details.
 






I'll give you a simple reply. If you like the OEM brakes, just buy Motorcraft replacement rotors and pads. You'll be good as new for another 65-70k miles. That's what I plan on doing, as I agree the stock brakes work very well.
 






Just a tip on Ford brake pads… OEM Ford blue box pads are different than Motorcraft pads.
