I just installed a set of front brakes on my 99 xlt ex, back in July, and I never did the back brakes because they looked fine...now the front brakes and back ones are scraping metal to metal (gasp)...

1) I am surmising that the front brakes wore so quickly because the back ones were not doing anything...

2) I noticed a lot of brake dust on my front rims after I had changed them...wondering if this is due to the back ones not performing,

3) is there anything that must be done to avoid the brake shoes rubbing on the rotor other than the usual slide pin grease (high temp)....

thanks for any help//

You will usually be replacing the front brakes for the 2nd time before replacing the rear brakes for the 1st time do to most brake systems are set for 70 to 80 % front brake to 20 to 30% rear brake for more controlled stops. The brake dust may be due to the type of brake pad your using (metallic, semi metallic) and how you drive(slow stops, or jam your face into the windshield stops).Keeping your slide pins greased will allow the caliber to move more freely but the pads usually ride a hairs width away from the rotor while driving. But if you do hear a scrape pause scrape sound as the wheel turns the rotor is warped, if its a constant scrape noise as the wheel turns your caliber is "sticking". Hope this Helps
