Hi guys!!
Question on front brakes:
Should I spend more money on ceramic pads or buy regular semi-metallic pad, sometimes on diving trips, the truck is pretty loaded...

Thanks in advance!!

I was told by a guy who used to work as a parts clerk at NAPA here in Montreal (somewhere around St-Leonard) that the Premium NAPA brakes are guaranteed for life, as long as you keep your receipt... Basically, it means that when they're done, you bring them in and they give you a new set for free. I'm gonna change mine soon, so I'm definately gonna see if that's still the way they do it (apparently the quality is excellent on those). Don't forget to ask for your free 2005 calendar! :D

Buy the good ones. Mine are still like new after a year of driving! :burnout:

Yes, Buy the Good Ones!! I My Self Prefer Wagner!! They are the Best!

actually i'm in tech school right now for diesel and heavy equipment.

learned the other day about brake pads and the life of them.
teacher said that the more expensive pads that are guranteed for life actually have a higher content of metal then the cheaper ones. so the pads last along time.....only problem is that they wear the rotor down faster because they bite harder.

i guess i myself would rather change the el cheapo pads more regularly then swapping rotors out.

I got the Morse Ceramics from AutoZone and had a few issues (I used a stop sqeak spray on the pad before I put the shim). Once I replaced them they have been fine. They stop better and have almost no dust.

I do get a squeak in the rear when backing up in the rain or if they are wet but it does not happen going forward and dissapears once they warm. Not sure what the cause of that is but it's not much of a big deal. Most people with ceramics say they are very quite. I am happy with them and have had amost no wear in 9 months on the pad - not sure about the rotors though.

I am a frequent NAPA customer here in Phoenix and I was told by one of the managers that ceramic pads are a no-no for rotors that were not made for them. They chew them up because the metal is too soft. He said, stick with the regular pads made for your car. (He is an ASE Certified Master Mechanic... just a little FYI...)

Thanks...Guys...so I'm confuse even more now...

bendix only way to go

Hey Fallsguy...but how much wear are the rotors getting in contrast to the pads. You want the pad to wear not the rotor...right?

OEM Ceremic Ford Pads are the best. We use NAPA parts are our stores and the semi-metallic pads seem to make a lot of noise. Also, the ceremic are better because of the pad wear. Yes, they do wear quicker - but you'll probably get more miles out of your rotors! If you do a brake job the right way and machine your rotors everytime, then you'll want the ceremic. Rotors are more expensive than the pads. And whatever you do, do not just slap the new NAPA rotors on (any rotors really). I have seen some horrible brand new rotors from NAPA! Good luck

i've been using the cheap pads from Advanced Auto and so far they are working great

Hey man. What's happening? I buy the good pads and the lower end rotors. The rotors are cheap enough and my pads and rotors are still new after a year. Niether of them wore! I can stop way better than the cheap pads. By the looks of it they'l last at least another year or so. I don't think the pair of rotors were much more expensive if at all than the good pads were.

Happy motoring. :smoke:

i like ceramic
