Yes they do. The handbrake shoes fit in a small drum inside the rear disk. If you take off the disc you would see them. They usually break up with age rather than wear down, as in theory they never touch the moving drum/disc (it is an all in one part).

thank you howard,i didnt know that, will get some of those aswell then, for when i replace the rear pads may aswell do it all in one go i suppose,if i have to go and get all mechanical and oily lol.

Good luck. If you have ever done a mini then they are very similar, but with less room to work. A very fiddly job, watch those fingers on the springs. :D Adjustment is with a star wheel at the bottom. Which you get to via a rubber plug at the back of the backplate. The book says lock them up and back off 8 clicks. I found that back off 4 clicks or till just not rubbing is better.

oh dear lol that sounds like a lot of cuts and squashed fingers, usually at wich point istart needing new body panels lol.

think i may need a box of parts and come visit you howard so you can supervise my very amature efforts

or find a garage that can actually be trusted,(second option silly idea, it would be cheaper and easier to just buy a new car lol)

Howard's Explorer Garage can be opened for special customers only. :D

Its not that bad if you have a brake spring tool. :D and small fingers.

Brake Pipe Query

Hi
Have had mine in the garage to have the pipe that runs from the HCU to the rear brake calipers including the 2 flexi pipes replaced.
According to the man at the garage the threads into the fittings anre not standard metric fittings.

Any ideas??

Your man is absolutely correct. The fittings are the same as 'old' UK cars from the 1950's and 1960's. UNF thread springs to mind but I might be wrong. Whenever I've made up new brake pipes for my Exs I just re used the old fittings as my local motor factor simply does not understand anything that isn't metric. After I sold my last Explorer I found a handfull of imperial brake pipe nuts left over from my Landrover days... Ho hum...
