- 2000 Mercury Mountaineer
Hi all, I bought a full set of Rancho RS5000's for my 2000 Mountaineer and have had em on for about 3 weeks now (I also replaced the 5th shock with a Monroe Magnum Axle Shaft Damper). I got a really pricey alignment immediately after replacing them myself. They are incredible shocks--and although they ride very firm, the ride quality is very much improved and cabin vibrations at high speeds have significantly decreased. The Shocktober rebate deal was an added bonus.
Only problem is that I hear a high-pitched squeak from the driver's side front shock whenever I hit a bump. I've read online that spraying silicon lube on the shock is a temporary fix, but I was looking for more permanent fixes to this annoying sound issue.
The Rancho RS5000's also come with a fancy red boot to cover the shock and protect it from dirt. The high-pitched noise doesn't really sound like it could be caused by rubber, though I could be wrong.
Thanks for your time. We all can appreciate a quiet ride haha.
