what is a breather filter and where is it. and when should it be changed. it has never been changed and i have 65k on my x

A breather filter is usually a small filter that one installs on the end of their tranny, diff, and tcase breather lines. This usually means that they've extended their lines to the engine bay for better water crossings. There may be other things that are called breather filters, but that's what comes to mind.

So if you haven't extended your breather lines, you probably don't have a breather filter.

is the "breather line" that little metal tube that comes down by the tranny and it look like a carberator overflow tube on 4 wheelers and such?

breather lines are usually rubber vacuum type tubing. on our trannies, the breather orifice is directly on the top towards the driver rear of the tranny. your diffs should have factory breather lines, though they're short. the tcase should have one too.

I extended the factory diff line and added a tranny line. Ran them to a $8 little filter that's in the engine bay.
