after wheeling the other day, i noticed this weekend that after certain bumps i would hear this crunch and got up under the truck today and noticed that the sway bar mout from the control arm is broken... do i really need the sway bar or can i pull it off and still get around town... any help would be grateful

ive had the front and rear sway bars off for a year or so and im good...just slow it down around turns...you might like the feel of it...if not you'll end up fixing it...i find that it makes small bumps and dirtroads alot more tolerable

really? it didnt do anything to tires or mileage?

ok....then it looks like i am pulling it off tomorrow. and i already take it slow around corners so i should be good

you gouys pull the bar and bushings off to?

Very few do, unless you're a serious offroader that needs articulation.

I would read through HERE

would it be alright to take off just for now so that it doesnt crunch over bumps? im a college kid and dont have the funds to fix now.... i should by the summertime though

Take a drive at highway speed, you probably wont like how it feels, especially the tendency for one corner to nosedive.

Or better yet, in an empty parking lot, get up a little bit of speed, now make an emergency maneuver, as if some idiot just wandered into your lane on the highway, or as though a deer just ran out in front of you.

Actually, don't do that............ because you will likely roll your Explorer and end up in the hospital.

This is a very cheap part, but the consequences of not replacing it/them (both sides should be changed together, like shocks or brakes) can be severe.

If you have to, yes. You can drive it like that. Should you save the cash in the following days that go to Taco Bell until you can drop $30 on some end links instead of actually going to Taco Bell? Yes.

They are very easy to replace...

Perhaps you could send him so home-made choco-diles, to survive on in the meantime?:D I thought I read that choco-diles contain 100% of the daily recommended amount of all nutrients...........or maybe it was 0%? I can't remember.

haha thanks guys. and i actually dont do take out or stuff like that. im in training right now for backpacking the grand canyon and alaska in june. no junk food for me. and i actually just bought a ton of gear for my trips. but it wouldnt be for that long about a week or to just to get back and fourth to class and work.

The trouble is, the need for an emergency manuever could pop up today - you just never know. Listen to these guys and fix it now - it's $30 and a few minutes work versus your (or someone elses) life.

Removing the sway bar IMO isnt near that big of a deal, yes you will have more body roll but does that mean you will roll the vehicle faster than you would if you had one...NO IT DONT.... It just changes the way the vehicle handles is all really not that IMPORTANT!!!!!!

i find it funny how everyone who has never driving without sway bars has fear of doing so. i for one have had mine off for around 2 years now and mind you i dont corner slow and i dont drive slow. my buddy actually is amazed how hard i accerlerate out of turns and i go up and down the nj turnpike every weekend at 80mph+ and its fine you just have to get used to the feel and anticipate the actions of the truck (aka be a good driver) so for sake of having no money rip it off clean it up and put on when you can.

IMO= In My Opinion and thats just what it was MY OPINION so dont take it for more than that but I have operated various vehicles without swaybars that should have them stock and its just not that big of a deal really.
