Brown wire mod?

Sorry about all the posts but im tryin not to screw up on this. After reading other posts i think i know how to do it now. I remove the seat, pull back the carpet, and the group of wires are right there.( Like in the pic below) I cut the brown wire, extend it, take my 3 prong switch and put a ground wire to ground and either side of the brown wire to either of the 2 prongs left over. I think thats it. Am i right or wrong?

Agarbs87... If you want the switch light to vary in intensity when in 4wdAuto mode then hook up the switch exactly how I indicated in my previous post (this is the way most of us have it installed... so you can see when the TOD is calling on the TC to pulse the front driveshaft). I must admit I feel ignored  Even though I 'anticipated' this question apparently you didn't read or have chosen not to take my advice. Hook up the switch like I said... Acc prong to the transfercase side of the BW and 12v prong to the other side of the BW.... this does not mean either side to either prong as you said in your post. If you hook up the wires differently than what I said, the light on you switch will not vary with intensity when 4 wd auto is engaged.

Don't worry pal... you won't screw it up unless you don't find the BW. If you have problems (which at this point I believe will be impossible since it's now been beaten to death... :D ) we are here to help you.

I just finished putting everything back on. It works like a charm. Thanks for all the help. Sorry again for all the posts i made it seem hard. But it was simple.

Congrats... I knew you'd be successful.... but watch out for the bite of the 'modding bug'. This site is addicting.

I need help agian. lol. Since i had my switch i didnt have the ground wire hooked up. Today i put it on and the light went on for like 5 seconds and then it went off. I checked the 4wd fuse and it looked ok. Is there anything else it can be? The switch hold up to 15 amps. Also i unhooked the switch and electrical taped the wire ends will that be ok for now?

Its hard to say what's happening by you description, but I'll try to offer some help.

If you hooked it up like I said then the switch light will vary in intensity. When you're in 4wd auto mode with the BW switch on, it will go from very dim (almost to where you can see it especially in daylight) and brighten up as the TOD calls for the TC to apply power to the front. If you turn your dash switch to 4wd high, the BW switch should remain constantly lit. You may want to check yours again in 4wd high and see if it remains lit.

I did install one (bulb type) switch that didn't seem like it was lit at all and also didn't light up very bright when in 4wd auto and the TOD increased its signal. However you could see the light on the switch when I put it in 4wd high even though it's intensity was weak. I changed the switch to an LED type and the light was brighter. This could be your problem too.

The only other thing I can think of is that maybe you bought a defective switch or perhaps the switch bulb burned out.

Do a little more investigation and report back.

BTW... for a temporary fix you can simply connect the 2 ends of the BW with an aligator clip jumper wire and you'll be back to stock (or use rookieshooter's wire nut method lol).

I got a electrical meter and i put it on 20k ohms . When i touched the positive and negative ends of the meter together it read ".00". and when they were apart it read "1."

Then i unplugged all the wires and turned the switch on (4 wheel) and touched the two ends of the meter to the 2 power prongs on the switch and it read "0.00" again. Then i shut the switch off (2 wheel) and it read "1."

I dont know if i am doing this right but my guess is that 0.00 means the power is running through and the 1. is no power running through. So i personaly think the switch still worksand the bulb just blew.

Some please correct me because i think i am wrong.

Tommorow when i get home from school i am goin to hook the switch back up and see if i can spin the tires with the switch in the on and off positions.

I will get back to you with the update. I hope this stuff made sense.

Just a thought, put the meter on volts not ohms. Put one lead on power side of switch and the other to a ground, make sure it's on bare metal. Then turn on dash switch to 4 w and see if you have volts, if you do then do other side of switch that goes to transfer and see what you get.

And when you are doing that, also put your dash switch in 4wd high and see if the BW switch lights up. If it does light up at all, it should remain constantly lit. Let us know.

I hooked the switch up. It goes into 2wd and 4wd. The light does not go on but at this point i really dont care.

Thanks for the help
