Brown wire voltage

Hi could some one get under thier 2002 explorer and test the voltage of the brown wire with a multimeter in 4x4 high and low in park with engine running

i am only reading 0.63v and i thought that this was low but want to check it

i currently have no drive at the front wheels

I believe the GEM will only power the clutch when the vehicle is moving.

You could just apply power to the brown wire. If you still don't have 4WD its not an electrical issue.
 






Does any one know what valtage it is in their explorer

would it work if i just hooked up 12 positive from battery to it
 






Yes, its just 12 volts.
 






The system will activate the clutch at a minimum duty cycle when the vehicle is stopped. I would expect the voltage to be low (IIRC, mine was around 1V). When the vehicle starts moving, that's whn it ramps-up the duty cycle on the clutch... I suspect it's to help relieve any driveline bind-up when the vehicle stops, in case it's asked to shift to 4low, but that's just my theory.
