so when I test drove the ex today after a winter of sitting when I stopped and opened the hood the return jug for the antifreeze was bubbling. I can't teil if thats simply air in the system escaping or if I'm boiling the coolent , the car doesn't run hot or overheat.

Take off your radiator cap when the truck is cold and not running. Start it up and see if you're getting bubbles there, too, or if it's spitting out coolant. If it is, you might have a blown head gasket. To check, get a hydrocarbon test kit at NAPA. They are about $30. Follow instructions with kit.

If it's not that, maybe a bad radiator cap, or bad temp sensor (saying it's cooler than it really is) or thermostat. Warped/cracked heads are common on these. So definitely something to check. Check your oil and coolant, too. Check the colors. Milky oil is bad, mustardy coolant is bad. I'd start with the cap, thermostat and sensors if everything else appears normal.
