Hey! this is my first build/upgrade thread, i know that there's a few write ups about engine mounts and transmission mounts, but they didn't really pertain to what i was wanting to do so i just thought it might be a good idea to post this just in case anyone else is interested in what i did.
Custom welded solid motor mounts!
I don't think I can upload pictures yet.
Basically all my mounts were shot, in a nutshell I removed the old mounts, cleaned them up and prepped them for welding... grinding for clean metal, then I cut up some scrap steel plate, I used 3/16 thick but as long its not thinner then 1/8" then your good to go(just for strength really).
I cut strips about 3/4 to an 1'' wide and about 2-3" long and welded them into place on the bottom side of the mount, i used 2 strips per mount, now you can either weld them compressed or uncompressed (i used a bench vise).
I welded my motor mounts uncompressed and my transmission mount compressed. Now the motor sits about 1/2-3/4 of an inch higher and the transmission now sits 1/2-3/4 of an inch lower.
I did this basiclly because i'm running a 1 piece drive shaft and a 6" lift its merely to help sorta straighten the drive line to the rear and the front. With doing so I also eliminated that annoying back and fourth lunging that happens when cycling the gas and letting off the clutch hard... it was so bad that my transfer case would hit the bottom of my floor really hard because of really bad wheel hop while wheelin'. all of which is virtually gone!
(I had bad wheel hop due to a blown shock in the rear
)
My truck doesn't even vibrate near as bad as I thought, its standable and it really increased the throttle response and over all feel of my truck i'm a happy man!
As well time to do this varies.. i took my sweet ass time but i would have to ball park.. 3-4 hours?
I didn't wanna spend money yet on new mounts, and prefabbed solid mounts run upwards up 300 bucks JUST for the engine mounts. and i'm not to worried about anything breaking yet..... i haven't takin it wheelin' yet but my engine is kinda gutless(4L ohv) so i'm not worried about twisting things haha.
Any questions just ask!
