ok so i have a 4 inch lifted explorer and im curious if i will need to drop the bump stops lower. will i smash my pumpkin if i leave them like this? my passenger side axle housing bracket doesnt hang like the rough contry lift did and people had problems with it. so should i drop it? my lift didnt come with drop brackets? any help would be nice. thanks.

oh if i dont get any answers im just goin to flex it slowly and see if the diff hits at full stuffage.

Thats what I would do.. For the front you have 2 things to worry about.. 1st is the pumpkin getting smashed.. 2nd is the shocks..

You want the bump stops to limit your up travel, not the shocks.. Which I think you will find is your limiting factor.

It was for the longest time on our X (broke a few lower shock mounts because of it). We Have have since changed to f-250 upper shock mounts and now have 12" travel shocks up front and still no dropped bump stops..

The front diff doesn't hit and the limiting factor is now the air box/upper inner fenderwell. When I compress the suspension all the way the tires go up until they hit the airbox/inner fender (not the plastic part, thats been gone for years).

What lift do you have? If its the RC or one that uses a plate to drop the passenger beam then yes you will need to drop the bumpstops or your diff will smash its self on the bracket. I thought mine wouldnt and now I have a hole in my diff.

i have the tough country lift. it came with a drop bracket for both beams

my stiff ass coil springs seem to limit my up travel to 3
inches wich wont let me see if it hits my bump stop or my shock first. i think it would nail the shock first though.but im not jumping it or hardcore wheeling it so....

No it wont hit under normal conditions. You have to flex the suspension pretty hard like a jump or landing in a huge rut at speed like I did.

Oh no you should be fine with that kit. If you google rough country kit you will see the plate that drops the passenger side axle bracket.

If you "want" to set your bumpstops.. take the springs out so you can move the suspension and set the bump stop so it stops the suspension before anything hits or before the shock bottoms out.. I'd set it to about 1/2" before since the bump stop wil compress some if you hit things hard enough for it to hit.
