Burnouts? Proper way to do it?

I couldn't remember. Unfortunately that was one of those old deleted threads that Rick had to get rid of back when space was at a premium to keep the website running smoothly. I wish to heck it was still on the board.

Ya it was me, though I think I would use the word "fortunately", not un. :D.

As far as impressing the "ladies" by burn outs(refering to Karols reply). I think wanting to do burn outs has to do more with that classic americana highschool machismo thing.

It's just something every guy wants to do, whether it be intelligent or not. Although in a perfect world, I would think that women would be more happy with the lengths that a guy will go to in order to show a girl he likes her. I can't tell you how many times I have acted like an idiot for a girl, luckily I recently nabbed one that seems to not mind me being a dork...for now.

I think I even convinced her that I "need" to have a truck capable of winning the Top Truck Challenge :)

We have a 78 Ranger F250, has a Ford 400 engine in it, 3/4 ton, no lift with 33's, nice and wide tires, dual exhaust. We're planning one of these days to start building it back up. If we could get some new 33's, fix the header gasket, get a new U-bolt, and some minor engine work and we would use it alot. But I wanna get a regular bed on it instead of a service one witht eh toolboxes it has, and get the huge crane off of it :D But once we get all the major things completed, that thing could definately lay down some rubber...with 33's  I bet if we would have had that with us Sunday night we would've been out of that mud hole alot faster, either chain up and pull us or hook up and lift us :D

Tom! I agree!

Life was much more fun in those days!! I was responding to the guy way up in the thread that commented that he was trying to impress the ladies I just had to put my $.02 in about how much it supposedly impressed us... but I certainly wasn't in the popular crowd either... I do know what you mean... I still live in the same town and sometimes I see people I went to high school with...(well they see me). I don't recognize them at all but they all know my name.. I wasn't popular..I used to do alot of things to piss people off. I moved here from Philthydelphia (the other students drove BMW's Mercedes etc)..I drove around a broken down Montego (a ***** to push in the snow) so you can just about guess how outcasted I was... LOL

frying tires i fun at 18 in a 91 explorer then do it in a 98 ranger and all hell breaks losenow in buildind the top tires soker a 88 ranger with 2.0l inline 4 no a 88 ranger with a 472 caddy a TH-400 and a 8.8 with 3.73 and a spindle

Karol,

If you are refering to me about the impressing the ladies thing I have to respond. A group of girls asked me to do it. And me being a 17 year old, back then, would have never said "NO" to a group of gorgeous girls. So I impressed them and scared the hell out of them at the same time.

I have a 74 CJ5 with a Built-304 33x12.50's BFG MT's and I don't seem to have any problem Lighting them up in second gear!

We can burn the tires on all of our current vehicles, even my dads service truck! His F150 is an inline 6, Longtrail 31's, and without trying he can smoke those. Moms 94 Dodge Caravan SE, front wheel drive with Michelin X-radials can lay tracks almost equal to the Explorers, and its a 3 liter. Then I've already mentioned the Explorer, and the F250 Ranger. Now the service truck I mentioned, I would bet 10 dollars it cant spin its tires. Its absolutely HUGE. Its probably a good 20 or so feet long, weighs I dont know how much, has enormous tires, an extended service bed, and an International diesel engine. But since he works at a mine, they have a haul road, and it gets so packed that whenever it rains it gets like ice except its muddy. Dad says he's done doughnuts with it before, and they way he drives, I'm sure he has :D But I bet I could pull its

I heard many of my friends utter "idiot" or worse...

See, boys don't know that. I think you don't really figure that out until at least 35. How do I know, you ask. Well I am 31 and I haven't figured it out yet... LOL... a good burnout is kinda fun. I do it mostly for me though not for the ladies... LOL ;)

I think it's past 35...like maybe 60+ My only reasoning is that my dad still loves to take his 1970 porsche 914-6 and burn em and fishtail around corners....He loves it, and yes, he is cautious how and where he does it....But I gotta say, it's really fun :)

Sigh I guess....

burn it!

I remember my '64 chevelle: 327 vette engine, 4 speed, big clutch.

I would be cruising the freeway @60mph, put it in 2nd (3.08 gears!) and pop the clutch. I'd spin the tires till I hit 70+!!!

the good old days!

Troll Does not feel Burn outs are very important thing right now because he has just in form me yester day that the car now spin tire all the way throught second gear now and he thinks it might me time for new tires. i did not read all the post yet i just say the topic and had to reply before i lost my motivation.. buy the way troll want one of those new icon thingies when he post to.

Burn outs are deffiniyly cool. Peeling out in the wet is noy that cool unless you hold the3 car in one spot with the brake and do long smoky burn out. There are many methods of doing burnouts all of which do not help your car or explorer in any way. I am 20 and currently drive a 91 xlt with drilled intake flomaster cat back exhaust taylor wires and 31-11.5 which did not require any lift contrary to some popular beliefs. In high school I had a stock 69 cuda with a 318 2bbl and a four speed about 220 hp than I sold that for a 66 Gto with a 400 4bbl 4speed about 350 hp much nicer condition than the CUDA' . I learned alot about burn outs with these cars. I did many burnouts with these cars and my only fatality was the 8 3/4" diff in the cuda and a couple of tires. What you should do if you feel a burnout coming on within the next week find any old tire that will bolt on two if you have a locking diff that way you dont ruin your good tires. Whith a Auto smokeinm is easy with some power this procedure was described above. With a manual it can be a bit harder on drive train if you arent experienced . Most people with a manual rev the engin to all hell then drop the clutch (especially teenage honda drivers a particullary dumb breed) this is very bad the shock on the drive train from this can easily take out drive line parts I learned this after my blown rear end. With a auto you can ease up the power till the torque converter begins locking up wich doesnt put such a shock on the drive train. With the man. the least harm full way to do it is statr em spinnin in the rain the water soon dries off and the smoke starts if held in one spot. Another way is do it from a stop sign durring a 90 degree turn this is how i do it in my explorer if it is dry. Let the clutch out normaly but then floor it when you are turning and the abcence of weight in one side will easily let the tire spin then start slowly putting on the brakes till the truck stops and the tire starts smokin it is tricky but easy with a litttle practice. Another thing what ever you are burning out in use only enough rpms to keep em smokin good. Have fun and dont get caught.

ya what he said. troll just needs road in front of him.

O yeah if you grt caut you will probably get reck less driving + in washington they are 30$ a foot.

Back in high schoo i was with a friend with a camaro. He decided to celebrate graduation by roasting his tires. He cut the wheel and floored it. There we were driving in a circle not being able to see anything with all the smoke. After what seemed to be one minute of driving in a circle he decided to stop. We seriously couldnt see a thing infront of us. When the smoke cleared there was a nice man in a uniform standing along side his bran new Crown Victoria with a pole and a wheel attached to one end of it. He politely explained that it was used for measureing skid marks and proceeded to walk in what seemed to be an endless circle. I cant remember what the actual footage was but he handed my friend a ticket which had the footage along with reclass driving and a court date. That graduating smoke show cost him $5500 incuding court costs. And he lost his liecence for about a year. What we should have done was ran out of the car and said thank god your here the pedal got stuck on the floor and in order for me to avoid other cars i decided to drive in a circle. Probably wouldnt have worked and he would have added some more stuff to the ticket for us being idiots but that was great. High School years were great.

burn outs

If you want to do burn outs I would recomend getting a locker for you front brakes. It's want the use for drag racing. The way it works is you press the brake peddle, and push the button to set the locker. Then you while holding the button you release the brake peddle. As long as you hold the button down your front brakes are on and you rear brakes are not engaged. That will make it a lot easier for you to do burn outs.

Back when i was a teenager, our little RWD four bangers couldn't let em loose like the guys with built cars. So we would get the car into reverse and then dump the clutch while rolling back. this made a more impressive burnout, but went through clutch discs pretty quick

Man, I read at my old posts on here, and boy do I sound stupid!! Since the tranny repair we had, I dont do many burnouts. I might spin it up a little every now and then. I havent ever done any smoky burnouts, and I dont plan to. Especially not with these BFG's, those lugs'll tear the hell out of the axles. I've matured since then I suppose :D
