Hello Everyone! I just stumbled onto this forum this evening while researching info to make up my mind on which powertrain for a "new" '08 Explorer purchase. This is an awesome resource! I'd like anyone's input that's backed by experience - 4.0L w/5 spd auto tran. or 4.6L with 6 spd tran? Pro's and Con's?
This would be my 2nd Explorer....still driving '98 XLT w/4.0L that has had few issues that come to mind except short life on the brakes. The Explorer still seems to be the ideal choice for us from a functionality perspective for a family that hauls a big ocean kayak, takes it off road occasionally and lives where there's real winter driving conditions. Honestly folks, is there a better choice than the Explorer in the price range? Thanks in advance for any helpful response.
