I am about to buy a 99 Ex for parts. The owner said the title was messed up in his home town (out of state) so is just selling the truck as is without the title. I have no thaughts of it being a stolen truck, but if I get it, part it out and all that, how do I scrap the body without a title? Any and all help is appreciated!

Florida btw

stolen.... no title is a stolen vehicle....

should be relative "easy" to pull the VIN and hopefully he actually knows where "the messed up in his home town" actually was (ie. state).... phone or otherwise with VIN should tell you who is the owner. Sounds funny... ha ha to me.

After your done with it, take a sawzall to it :D Then just throw the pieces in the back of a pickup and take it down to a scrap yard lol... Thats if its not stolen but just doesnt have a title. If it is stolen, youll probably be better off just avoiding it

I think where I live, you have to cut the vehicle in half, and then you can turn it in as scrap.

I can cut it up tinto tiny little pieces to avoid suspission.. but if there is suspission I dont want any problems with law. I did this exact same scinario in Orlando once with a 95 Ex and felt weird about it after I did it lol. I plan on getting a bill of sale "as is" from the guy who has it. I tried running the liscense plate (he still has on it) online and havnt found anything about it

I also dont believe its stolen because apperantly he has been driving it, so he should have insurance I would imagine. He offered to drive it to my house once I agree to buy it. I dont like buying cars with no titles but for $600 it beats tracking down and paying more for the stuff I need from it

with out a title, regardless its possession of stolen property.

Driving it around town, with plates means nothing.

if it is his car, he can spend 10 min goto the dmv and get a new title.

I wouldn't touch it without a title. The scrapyards here want titles even if its going to scrap. Cops could ask your neighbor even after its scrapped if they saw the truck and you have a ton of answering to do.

Run the vin by the cops to be sure, and take the officers name. At least you did due diligence if they question you.

Find out about getting a bonded title. Bonded titles are for vehicles with lost titles.

Get the vin and call the police to check if it is stolen. If they clear you, most salvage yards and scrap metal places won't accept whole vehicles without titles. Get a bonded title like Rick suggested, or you need to cut the explorer into small enough pieces that they will accept it as scrap steel instead of junk car bodies. It is a lot of work, and if you are using a sawzall, you will be cutting into your additional profits with the long demolition blades you will want for this. But, scrap steel does sell for quite a bit more than car bodies. Not enough to really be worth it. Cutting them up does make stripping some of the parts a lot easier though, and it gives you an excuse to save good rocker panels or doglegs if the truck has good ones.

Some places will take bodies with just a bill of sale. Call around. Your local Highway patrol or Sheriffs office is the best place to get information about what to do when considering buying vehicles with no titles.

I still have the titles to the last 5 trucks I scrapped. :D Junk yards want titles, scrap metal recyclers dont care. Make some phone calls.

Cool, I appreciate it guys. I will see about a bonded title just to avoid any issues.. I need to get the title for the one I'm driving too! The crack pot dealership I baught it from lost my title before I could get it payed off.

Gotta Love EF! Can't mention removing cats, but getting rid of vehicles without a title is well and good!

It is easier to get a house than to get a car lol! In FL anyway..

I just learned, the guy does have the title :l Its just not a clean title because it didnt get registered properly in his home state. So at least thats something!
