I have a 97, 4.0 - therefore the BW 4405 T-Case
I am quite familiar with the design and common problems of the 4405.
I have had the common loud buzzing on deccel problem with the last t-case - BUT THIS IS A DIFFERENT NOISE.
This noise is a similar buzzing noise (think grinding gears), but is barely audible (air off, no music to be able to hear it). It only occurs at very low speeds. I have actually noticed that it ONLY occurs when the speedometer has fallen to the bottom peg (i.e. speeds less than 10 MPH). It happens in all gear selections - D, N, R. The noise also occurs whether moving from stop, or slowing down from faster speed. The noise stops as soon as the speedometer rises off of the bottom peg. It also stops when the vehicle completely stops.
I'm thinking that may this is the speed sensor or speedometer gear in the t-case. Maybe it somehow a driveshaft/u-joint issue - but I can't explain why the noise would stop in that case...
Anyone have any thoughts or experience something similar? I think I am going to try removing the speed sensor temporarily and see if that changes things.
Thanks
