Well the CA state legislature has passed a new law to allow the CARB to recommend or demand design changes in autos sold in CA to meet stricter emissions requirements.

The good thing-from what I have read and heard is that they cannot tax anything.

What they can do is require certain mpg minimums, engine size and other such design changes to limit what CA consumers can buy and drive in CA.

They are basing this on the global warming theory and greenhoue gasses.

I am all for a clean and healthy environment, but their reports are one sided and no hard proof has been established of global warming. And in the science community there are many differing opinions on global warming.

I always think of one volcanic eruption where in that one eruption, it spewed out more greenhouse gases that contribute to global warming than man has in over 100 years as an industrial world. I think it was Mt. Minatubo or something.

So Californians beware.

I read an article from Greenpeace stating that the US goverment produces 3/4 of the green house gases. We still have that stupid MTBE in our gas that causes cancer and contaminates ground water. Why don't they fix a few things before creating more problems.

No way its 3/4 of the worlds greenhouse gasses, its probably more like 1/4 or 1/3. That I can beleive. But, who cares, we also produce 1/2 of the worlds economy or there abouts considering CA alone has the worlds 5th ranked economy.

Its a balance.

Not the 3/4 of the world but 3/4 of US green house gasses. I know the military dosn't have smog stuff on thier vehicles. I might be wrong, my memory is fading with age. Maybe 2/3. I know it was over half.

"Do as I say not as I do..."

Haven't you figured out by now that government is run by people who have no clue. The people that do have a clue would never get elected, and if they did, would have no chance of getting re-elected because to do what needs to be done would piss off everyone, even if it helped them.

California has many laws that make no sense. Gun laws, for exapmle. I did d huge research project on gun control and all it's social, economic, etc impacts. California decided which guns to ban based on how they LOOKED. If a gun looked mean, it was banned. However, if there was a "dangerous" gun that looked benign, it was not banned. The requirement for the "assault rifle" ban were mainly cosmetic. All the manufacturere had to do was make tha barrel a bit shorter and remove the muzzle brake, and guess what, it was sudden;y legal again. It was not any less "lethal" or "dangerous" but it was legal to sell again. Of course anyone with even a single neuron in their noggin knows that any gun in the hands of the wrong person is dangerous. So is a car, so is a knife, so is a bottle of Wild Turkey.

Anyways, my point is that laws about hings like guns, cars, and the like usually make no sense. The K&N on my X is not "legal" for my model year. I am technincally breaking the law. However, my X passed it's emissions test last Saturday. The bad components of my exhaust didn't even register they were so low. But The K&N is still illegal. It compromises the emmisions controls. Yep. Sure it does.

Ugh, the hippies up north are at it again. Seriously, I love CA, but the people running this state are dumber than 100 drunk retarded monkeys. In regards to the MTBE in the gas, yeah, I love pulling up to the pump and seeing the sticker that says "this chemical is known by the state of CA to cause cancer." Then why the **** are you putting it in our gas?? Granted, some of what they have done has been very beneficial (i.e. you can now walk through downtown LA without having to cut through the smog with a knife), but this is taking things a little too far. I mean, dictating what we drive? Come on. Seriously, if it wasn't for the year-round sunshine, beautiful beaches and hot chicks, I'd be so outta here. ;)

Hey Mike.

Move to Florida.

Year-round sunshine. Check.
Beautiful beaches. Check.
Beautiful women. Check.
Crazy CA laws. Nope.

Of course, Florida has it's own crazy laws but none like California when it comes to cars.

Hey Doc, when you move to Kansas City next year you won't have to worry about emission test:D In Missery (Missouri) we have the stupid safety inspection. I see more POS vehicles in Missouri than I do in Kansas which does not have safety inspetions.

I've always felt that for things like this it would be so much easier for Kansas City KA and MO to try and figureout some sort of law that would work for both of them. Anywhere you go, there are several different emissions/safety inspection laws, and they all say different things.

Yeah, you're right. We do have the humidity and mosquitos.

But remember, there is such no such thing as earthquake repellant. ;)
