I hate the media people. Why is it with all the folks displaced already, they refuse to describe the fire sites as anything other than "devastation", or "Annihilation", or how "apocalyptic" it is up there? F them.

i heard its pretty brutal, a friend of mine is currently working down i nthe malibu area with Cal*Fire (formerly CDF)

of course the media is going to portray it like that, thats what gets ratings....

But who do you blame?

The TV "news" (and I use that term VERY loosely) producers?

or the hordes of sheeple who tune in to see/hear "Death and Destruction" and drive up the ratings?

The part that pisses me off is they will be talking about a fire in one area then show houses burning yesterday in a different place. Put an address or gps with a time stamp on where you are at so people know what the hell is going on. I think I have seen same house burn 6 times when they are talking about 4 different areas.

I heard that, once they opened the I-15 down there, they had to patrol it because people were stopping on the shoulder to see the devastation and take pictures. Once they would get one group going, another group would stop and they had to start all over. Why do people have to do that??? No wonder the mayor told everyone to just stay home and off the freeways so emergency crews could get through!

Atleast with all the cops tied up manning check points and the traffic off the roads it made it easy to run through San Diego at 80 mph with my trailer last night getting back to my parents house.

Same problem up by us - 20+ cars were stopping on the 14 freeway and people were getting out to take pictures or just gawk.

They also made radio announcements and posted signs saying the main roads going up to the fire area were closed - but there was gridlock on all the back streets because people thought they could get around the roadblocks.

the words ""devastation", or "Annihilation", or how "apocalyptic" are actually quite correct... it is a major conflagration there, and very devastating.... it is a sad event to see so many injured, dead, or displaced.

we would have a better handle on it, if the government decided not to pad their pockets.... fire crews are the first thing to get cut, then something big happens and fire crews get, well if these overpaid dorks did something about it sooner, then it wouldnt be so bad, too bad no one actually sees that the fire crews had no hand it what happened, but the politicians with the benzes did.....

then there are the newspapers that report on how much fire fighters made last year in overtime... some make more in overtime than their regular salary... why is that, because the budget wont allow for more firefighters, will burn the hell out of the ones they have, but the state cannot deny overtime pay when they need those firefighters.....

My boss just called me to make sure that I am okay (and I am no where NEAR the fires). He said the offices (in Rancho Bernardo) had been evacuated Monday morning and he was evacuated from his home just before that. He is fine but is stuck out on the coast. He also said he has been checking the updates on homes that have been destroyed and his is fine so far. Although, some of his neighbors have lost their homes. It's a very sad situation. I just hope the rest of my friends from work are safe down there. :(

Here is another firemap, using Google Earth. I saw my friend's house on it and realized how lucky he was. The fire went right over his house and its fine. After the Ceder fire four years ago, he was worried and cleared all the brush around his house. Most of his neighbors in Rancho Santa Fe lost their homes.

Never stops in So Cal:rolleyes:

Today a car caught on fire off the 210 Freeway. near my house. then the fire went into the brush, and tore up the canyon.

So I'm watch SB 43, and I start hearing really low helicopters:scratch: I look ot the front door and I see water droping helicopters circling my house:eek:

So I drove up the hill, and there was half a dozen water droping chopers and abunch of LAFD trucks protecting some homes. Pretty scary to see people go out and start watering stuff down:(

Looks like they got it under control, and it only took out about 20 acres. But a 1/2 mile from my house it a little to close for my liking:rolleyes:

Wow -- a car started such a big fire? Amazing.

They should make it a requirement that every car in CA has a fire extinguisher!!
