Hello,

Have an 01 squeaking when stopping (specifically from 30mph down to a full stop.)

Finally (I hope / think) narrowed it down to the Caliper. First thing I want to do is grease the slide pin but also told that the dust shield or a clip could be rubbing on the rotor?

I'm not overly mechanical but this is a job I need to do myself. Does anyone have any experience with this issue and/or could point me in the direction of some How-To information that might help with the work?

As always, any insight appreciated!

try putting anti-seize on slide pins and on the back of the brake pads to get rid of noise.

OK, thanks for the input.

I was told to use Caliper Grease for the pins and some Brake Quiet spray for the pads...

Is there anything else I should be looking for that might be causing noise (dust shield / clips) or will it be pretty obvious that they are rubbing the rotor (if that's the case) once I start working on it?

BTW, does anyone know of a good video for doing this on the Sport Trac?

Thanks again!

If the backing plate was rubbing on the rotor that would be a grinding noise. The only way the caliper would rub on the rotor is if your pads are totally warn out.
If the slides where an issue you would hear it clancking over bumps. Or they could freeze up and that would cause abnormal wear to the pads.
What you may have is one cheap pads that are almost made to speak out of the box, or your pads could be getting low which then you would need new pads and machine the rotor to fix, or lastly the rotor could be warped from aggressive braking giving you a brake squeak and a pulsating brake pedal.

Pretty much any video on YouTube of disc brake removal/repair will pertain to the ST. If you search for an Explorer there will probably be more videos and it's the same thing.
