Can anyone identify this part?

Hi,
I'm new to the forum which I found while searching for diagrams to figure out where a water leak on my 1999 Explorer is coming from. Any expertise is greatly appreciated.

Facing the open hood, at the rear left of the engine compartment there is an upright black cylinder with a couple of metal tubes coming out of the top. (Part of the clutch system?) On of the tubes goes to the back and into a plastic enclosure. The water seems to be leaking from the seam at the bottom of the enclosure.

I'm sure this is obvious to most of you, but I don't get under the hood much anymore.

Ok, thanks. Let's give this photo a try. The part marked #1 was wet earlier but not the last time I drove. The water (sure seems to be water) is dripping from the bottom of #2.

Thanks! Heater control valve looks right. I found some diagrams on fordparts.com and what I was looking at were the a/c accumulator and the a/c evaporator case (which houses the heater control). So maybe for some reason I'm just getting more condensation dripping out. Mostly I wanted to know if this was something serious I needed to address before driving it more next week. Thanks again for your help.

Not all. Perfectly normal to find water on the a/c system piping.

That your air conditioner refrigerant lines, it's normal for them to sweat and the water dripping from the black evaporator coil housing is also normal.

If it's pure water, then its condensation, if its coolant then maybe the heater core? Can't see pics.

Yep, heater control valve. Thats condensation. Nothingto worry about. All Explorers do that all summer. Eat a cookie.
