Hi guys,

I have an 03 limited in the driveway. 155k miles on the body, looking at putting in a reman or certified used engine.

I'm looking at it as a long term investment, so if I can save money by getting a good engine and doing the job in the driveway, I'll be in great shape.

I'll be learning as I go with the help of YouTube, Chilton's and Haynes, and these great boards. But I don't know much about engines. I know the starter needs to come off along with most other components. But when it comes time to use a crane and lift it out...

At the end of the day it's still seized and attached to the torque converter via the flex plate whose bolts cannot be accessed until the engine is freed.

Can anyone help get me motivated to do this job, and maybe talk me through what is required for a driveway job? Most instructionals assume the engine rotates.

Should mention I have more time than money.

The two ways I would use: 1. Pull engine and trans at the same time.
2. Pull engine with TC still connected to flexplate. It should slide out of the trans. You may need more room to slide engine forward to clear TC from bellhousing. 2a. Disconnect trans and slide back to reduce the amount you have to pull the engine forward to clear TC from bellhousing.

Then you can have fun stripping the engine enough to get it to rotate again to remove TC.

Can't help with the motivation, take lots of pictures and label everything. I would pull the transmission at the same time as the engine. Once you clear the engine bay out the hoist is the easy part.
