Greetings,

I own a 1995 Ford Explorer XLT, and it came along with a CD/MD/MP3 player that's pretty cool. The only problem is that its built-in FM receiver is limited to 90MHz. The vehicle was imported from Japan, so I'm guessing the channels there are all up to 90MHz.

I can tune to one pathetic channel, and the rest are beyond 90MHz. Is there anyway I can extend the frequency band, some reset switch or something... Or I'd have to replace the entire unit? It's a Panasonic VX4400 CD/MD/MP3 receiver.

Please help, if someone knows how to tweak the FM receiver...

Thanks.

I am not aware of any way to tweak it, but you might try calling Panasonic and seeing what they can do for you.

I would say your best bet is to replace it. What is your "normal" range there?

Normal range is 87-108. So most of the channels start up after 90...

This receiver is most likely discontinued, I couldn't find it on Panasonic's website. And neither could I locate it anywhere else. It's pretty cool though, check its dimensions out if you have the time. It fits snugly, without any kit or anything into the space for the original radio.

The only place I found a link to it for the Panasonic CQ-VX4400 was here:

I don't think manufacturers make stuff of this height anymore.

Thanks.

Wow what a bright and unfamiliar page! It looks like a Double DIN deck, which is replaceable. Clarion, Pioneer etc. make double din decks, or you can get a kit that will mount a single DIN deck, with a pocket underneath or on top.

hehe...yip. Everything there is over the top, except for the images. But that's the one, it plays MDs, too. I kinda like it, except for the FM range...

So any double DIN spec head unit should be able to fit in the Explorer's headunit space? I'll go and checkout a few...I'm tending towards the 6.5-inch wide LCD screen, DVD units.

Thanks.
