Hey guys I've been searching the posts and can't seem to find a straight answer. I have a 97 explorer 4.0 v6 with a bad tranny. I already found out the hard way that I can't use a tranny from a pre-97 because it is only a four speed. I now found a tranny out of a 98 and am wondering if it will work in my 97. I compared the wiring harness and found that the connectors behind the engine are the same but the 98 is missing a few pins from those plugs, and there are two (I balieve) connectors missing from the transmission side of the harness. I believe one of the "missing" connectors is for the ODS sensor which from the sounds of it may not be necessary, but what about the other connector? Also the 98 tranny is still in the vehicle (I found it at one of the pull-it-yourself junk yards) so I can't compare bell housings. Can anyone confirm wether this will work? I don't want to make the same error I made on the last one. Thanks in advance...

The 97 5R55E has one additional sensor that the 98 does not have. So as a result it won't work correctly.
