Does anyone know if I am able to purchase a suspension lift (3" to 6") for my 96" Explorer XLT? I have checked on several sights and am running into a dead end. Also, I'm interested in a good dual exhaust system for my Explorer with a little roar to it. Any recommendations?

First off.. Welcome to the site. You will find everything and more related explorer information. do you have a 4x4 or a 4x2? how much $ are you willing to spend? what size tires do you want to run, and are you opposed to trimming sheetmetal?

Yes you can, it just depends on what kind of X you have. 2wd or 4wd???

Man, you guys are quick at replying. Awesome!

I have a 4X4 5.0 and want to put on 33-35" tires and am willing to spend up to around $1200. I am not against trimming sheetmetal to make it happen. Thanks in advance...

the only lift i can think of is a 4" superlift for $1600 (best perfomance, but expensive)

or a 2" Torsion Twist/Warrior 153 Shakle lift in combination with a body lift of 2-3" for about $200

Thanks for the recommendations. Where can i find either option at? Also, (I'm very new to this), but what other modifications/adjustments will I have to make to make it happen?

the superlift is relatively bolt on..... of course if doing it yourself, a few freinds and some beer would be good.... tires, rims, gears, extended brakelines

You can find the suspension lift at 4wheelparts. I dont know if they still carry the shackles, but you can get them at Desertrat.com. You have to call them because they are not listed on their website. Of corse, the TT can be done at home for free.

with the exception shackles are like $50 and you are going to need an alignment by a quality place

Here you go:

You may have to cut your torsion bar mounts off the frame (not sure how the directions or system is set up for 96-97 Explorers. You are also looking at a new driveshaft for the job as well.

Old Man Emu (OME) makes suspension systems for the 95+ Explorers. They make quality equipment and have a set of replacement springs that lift the back end up 2".

Good luck and let us know how everything works out.

To save some cash, you may want to start with theDead Link Removed. You will be able to fit 33x12.5R15s with some minor cutting.

After that, if you decide you want to go bigger, look at either the Dead Link Removed or the Dead Link Removed

Splashman and gentlemen, thanks for the help!! You guys have been awesome. I think I'm going to go with the T/T, shackles and 3" body lift. I went to Performance Accessories website and was a little confused...

I know that I need to ask for the 98-01 Ranger kit (#883) and the steering extension for the 95-97 Ranger... Now, this is probably a pretty stupid question, but is that all I need? In other words, does the Torsion Twist and shakles come with it?

If not where can I order them and what do I need to ask for? Thanks in advance!!!

:) :) :)

no the "torsion twist" is already on your car, you crank the torsion bars up, and the shackles do not come with this, you will need to ask someone else about the torsion bars cus i have a 92 which do not have torsions so i cant explain it, good luck

96' Explorer V8 Lift specifics

Thanks, Adam, does anyone else have any more specific info?:)

The TT is very easy, this will tell you everything you need to know about the TT.

You are going to need some different length body bolts. A couple of your original ones can be used in a different location and you can use 4-6 from the kit (I forget how many). Also, it will be cheaper in the end to order kit # 853 and get the front bumper lift brackets from kit # 883. The kits cost the same but the front bumper lift brackets are much cheaper than the steering extension even taking shipping into consideration. On a '98 or newer you would order kit # 883 since it uses the steering extension from that kit. Wherever you get your kit, don't tell them what it is going on. You may also have better luck ordering your bumper brackets (or steering extension, whichever you decide) from another place. Just tell them you got into an accident with your Ranger and bent your front bumper and need new brackets.

y not a 3" body and some perry fenders? u can get 33" with that 200 for BL and 350 for fenders...? just a thought
