Just bought a '97 Explorer EB, we looked at 3 '97s, all of them had the padding inside of the leather loose. Also, my daily driver is a '99 Ranger with a nice fat comfortable steering wheel, it's not thin like the '97 X, is it a direct swap to install a later model steering wheel?

Welcome!!

Hey! You're from G'boro! I'm in Clemmons, 15 minutes from Winston-Salem.

First of all, welcome to this site!! You'll find a whole lot of things you don't know about the X. Dead Link Removed

Alright...to your question. Yes, you can replace the steering wheel to a fatter one. You can go to the junk yard and find a '99-'01 Explorer steering wheel and just swap it. Good luck!!

Don't swap the airbag and whatnot though. Just the wheel itself.

Sometimes there are minor changes in the air bag system between two of the same vehicle, even from the same model year. Mixing can be dangerous.
