Hey Fellas, new guy here. i was searching the posts, found a few things but not exactly what i was looking for.

bought a 2000 Ranger 3.0 v6 2wd with a blown 4R44E (cracked case and all...) and found a real good deal on a rebuilt 4R55E that was suppposed to be for a 96 Explorer 4.0 2wd. Will this tranny work? i realize the bellhousings are different and that the front pump is attached. can i just swap that stuff over? will the electronics all work? any other sensors need to be changed? I am having some trouble finding a resonably priced trans for this.
Any help will be appreciated!

Thanks
Mark

Just wanted to follow up with what we did, in case anyone is wondering or considering doing the same thing.

got a real good deal on a rebuilt 4R55E that was supposedly for a 96 Explorer 2wd, 4.0L V6. The guy got rid of the truck before he used the trans.

My old man installed it in a 2000 Ranger, 3.0L V6 , 2wd. This had a 4R44E. He swapped over the bellhousing and pump, and used the old convertor.

The trans we got had a hole where the speedo would go, but the newer ranger doesnt pick up the speedo sensor there. plugged the hole with an old speedo adapter and clip.

well..it works! everything seems OK, the shift points seem like they might be off a couple miles an hour from what they should be, and the new trans has the famous 2-3 shift flare, but not too bad. We thought about doing the valve body upgrade to correct it, but decided to drive it for a while.
Fine for this daily driver truck. Ranger has 126K miles on it.

we were a little nervous about spending a few hundred bucks on a trans thats we werent sure would work. but so far so good.

Thanks
Mark
